"When I first started working with Jordie, I had just finished my first semester of Organic Chemistry. I did not do as well as I would have liked, and I knew my foundation going into the second semester was weak. Over the course of the second semester, Jordie was able to fill in the gaps in my knowledge and help me feel comfortable and confident with the new material. Jordie is not only the best tutor I have ever had, but also one of the greatest educators I have ever learned from. She is patient, brilliant, and capable of explaining even the most complicated material clearly and simply. She gives so much of her time and attention to the students she tutors, and she becomes genuinely invested in their successes. I have recommended Jordie to many of my peers at the University of Pennsylvania and all excelled with her lessons, motivation, and friendship. Although I struggled when I first began learning Organic Chemistry, the experience became one of the most valuable and enjoyable learning experiences of my life, and I credit Jordie with so much of why I feel that way. I was able to learn and understand so much because of Jordie, and I am incredibly grateful for her and everything she taught me." - Sara S. (University of Pennsylvania) "Working with Jordie is how I got through Orgo 1 and 2! Everyone had said it is the hardest class in college, but she made it doable. She is able to explain things in a way that professors can’t and make it so much easier to understand. After working with her I was so much more confident in not only orgo but all of my science classes because she taught me how to approach and tackle a problem, not just the need to know information. Jordie is so patient and helpful and everyone should have her as their tutor!!" - Sam F. (University of Pennsylvania) "Jordie tutored me for about two years in college level organic chemistry and organic chemistry lab. She is incredibly knowledgeable in this field (as well as so many other fields). She came to every tutor session very prepared. She taught me new topics and reinforced old topics through the use of her own strategies and worksheets and problem sets that she created for her tutees. Without Jordie, I would not have passed my organic chemistry courses. She helped me understand the tools necessary to be a successful student, and she provided emotional support at the same time. I highly recommend Jordie as a tutor!" - Emma R. (University of Pennsylvania) “Jordie was an awesome organic chemistry tutor. She was very patient and willing to explain things in many different ways to make sure I thoroughly understood it. It was clear that she knew her stuff so well that she was able to explain and elaborate on any aspect that I was struggling with in order to help me understand. I’m pretty sure she’s the only reason I passed organic chemistry.” -Sydney V. (Grinnell College) "Jordie was my TA for two semesters of organic chemistry. She is the sassiest yet most caring person you will ever meet! I had already tried Orgo 1 and dropped the class before trying it again for a second time - in all honesty, had it not been for Jordie, I don’t think I would have stuck it out (both Orgo 1 and Orgo 2). It’s easy to feel dumb in a class that does not come naturally to you and have never seen subject material for. Jordie doesn’t do that. She managed to break down all of the most complicated concepts into small chunks of information so that you could reinforce a new skill set every step of the way. Her worksheets are a prime example of this!! Not only were they extra practice problems but they really let you figure out where your weaknesses are and what you need to dedicate more time to. She designed these worksheets based off of the concepts that students typically struggle to grasp and sometimes she would even make up more problems as needed. Also, white boards, white boards, white boards! Repetition in orgo is key but it’s so much less draining when it turns into a fun white board session. Jordie would have a couple of students practice problems on white boards to ensure that everyone understood a concept after she explained it. This definitely helped me a lot because I only learn by making mistakes and Jordie never made me feel like making a mistake was a bad thing but she encouraged them. This type of learning lets you see the flaws in your thought process BEFORE an exam. In fact, I am studying for the MCAT now and I have to say organic chemistry is a piece of cake because of Jordie!" -Marianna O. (University of Pennsylvania) "Jordie is very knowledgeable and her enthusiasm for organic chemistry is obvious right from the start. She is able to explain difficult concepts in a way that makes them much easier to understand, she is always willing to review a concept multiple times if it isn't clicking, and she does a great job of asking questions during the session to both gauge and aid in your understanding of the material. When I first started working with her, I was taking Organic Chemistry I for the second time after earning a C in the course the first time. After just a few sessions with her, I am now at an A average. I highly recommend working with Jordie if you are struggling with organic chemistry! - Carrie P. (Villanova University) "Jordie is an excellent tutor! I was in need of a tutor the same day and she was very responsive and very flexible with her schedule. I have attended multiple sessions and she goes above and beyond to make sure I fully understand the concepts. Once the concepts are understood we do ALOT of practice problems which is ideal for making sure I can approach any problem with no difficulty." -Courtney L. (High Point University) "Jordie is an amazing organic chemistry Teaching Assistant! She is very patient and devoted to her students. Whenever I needed more help outside of her office hours, she was always willing to meet with me. She sincerely wanted me to understand the material and helped me until I did. Another reason Jordie stands out as a TA is that she guides her students to think through their questions, which helped me solve problems by myself much more easily on exams." -Sophie L. "Jordie helped me with Organic Chemistry I and was an amazing tutor. She was very patient and knew the material extremely well. I left every session having all my questions answered and feeling confident in my skills. Jordie helped answer all my questions that I had prepared prior to our meetings but also supplemented my own with follow up questions to make sure I understood the material. I will continue to use Jordie for Organic Chemistry II as she was crucial to my success in the class.!!" - Alana F. (Georgia Institute of Technology) "Jordie tutored us in organic chemistry 1 and 2 and was incredible. The class notes were difficult to follow and the material was hard, so we wanted someone to walk us through the notes. Jordie provided practice problems to help us understand the material. She was great at focusing in on exactly what we needed to know as well as teaching complicated topics in ways that were easier to understand. She had outside techniques and perspectives different from professors. Jordie was easy to work with and fun to chat with. She cared that we actually understood the material and were making progress, We would both highly recommend her, as she really helped improve our grades." - Rachel A. and Sydney B. (University of Pennsylvania) "Jordie tutored me in organic chemistry I, II (a year-long course). The reason why I decided to get a tutor was because the courses were challenging and I really wanted to make sure that I succeed in class, since they were arguably the most important classes for a biochemistry major. Before I got help from Jordie, I always felt that the class was fast paced and yet not all materials were connected. As such, I often found myself confused about a lot of the contents. Things changed rapidly when I started the tutoring session with Jordie and had tremendous help from her. I began to put all the pieces together and had a general picture of organic chemistry as a whole. More importantly, she was always great at integrating different chapters into several areas so I would always have a clear understanding. As a result, I performed well in the class and most importantly, I learned how to study in addition to just organic chemistry. In addition, I would highly recommend Jordie not only because she’s great at explaining but also because she is a very kind person who would always take the time to explain thing step by step. I remember clearly the time where I had trouble understanding Grignard reactions, especially when designing a synthesis experiment for a project in the class. She took the time to explain the concepts very patiently and had a large number of practice questions that she came up with for me to reinforce my understanding, which is unseen from a regular tutor. As such, I highly recommend Jordie for your consideration." - Fangda L. (Grinnell College) "Jordie was an amazing teacher who was able to eloquently and clearly explain concepts in an easy to understand and comprehend format. She knows exactly what is important to focus on and how to logically think through problems so that seemingly complex problems suddenly become simple" -Adhiti R. (University of Pennsylvania) "I had the great fortune of having Jordie as my TA for my Organic Chemistry II class during the spring of my sophomore year. I definitely had felt that Orgo was the hardest class I had come across in my undergraduate career, and finding resources that could help me understand information was definitely difficult. However, I can honestly say that I would not have successfully survived the class without Jordie. Never in any of my classes have I had a TA who willingly spends hours of her own time to make her own worksheets and practice problems, schedule office hours beyond the class-wide office hours for students who request it, and who will NOT STOP teaching and providing examples until whoever she is helping thoroughly understands the concepts. Not only this, but Jordie is so easy to talk to and build a strong relationship with. Even years after taking the class, I still get excited to catch up with my awesome TA. It feels like I have gained an additional friend rather than just another TA from taking Organic Chemistry. I cannot recommend Jordie highly enough." -James N. (University of Pennsylvania) "Jordie was my organic chemistry tutor while I was an LPS student at the University of Pennsylvania. Her teachings were an integral part of my success in the class after performing poorly in the class the previous year. Jordie is a patient, dedicated teacher who will tailor her teaching style to the individual needs of the student, whether that means using models to demonstrate complex reactions or talking through each individual step of a long mechanism. She is flexible and will and work with her students for as long as is necessary for the student to understand the material. While reviewing the material, Jordie will draw the students attention to patterns in the material and encourages students to complete practice problems on their own, offering a helping hand as needed. This teaching style allowed me to gain confidence with the material and left me feeling prepared for examinations." -Jess R. (University of Pennsylvania) "Jordie is the most helpful tutor I have had! She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject which makes her fun to work with. When I am having trouble understanding concepts or problems, she works hard to help me understand through approaching the topic at hand in different ways. She also focuses heavily on applying the topics to practice problems, which helps me be successful in approaching different questions." -Claire H. (Villanova University) |
